It’s Friday, again! You made it through another week of working remotely, working the frontlines, caring for others, navigating this challenging time we’re living in; whatever you are doing, pat yourself on the back. Hopefully, it’s your weekend now. Enjoy!
And if you are taking a break from work or other obligations, or have gotten through some tough time or other, maybe the title “I Must Be in a Good Place Now” applies.
Today’s song is by Matthew Barber and Jill Barber, the opening track from their Family Album (2016). I heard another song from it in October of that year, and after hearing a few more — I can’t remember where — bought the album in July 2017. I can’t say we have listened to the whole album a lot, but “The Sweeter the Dawn” is on one of my playlists and is a favourite, with a beautiful touch of twang. Maybe you’ve heard that one on the radio. “One True Love” is another fave. I’m not sure today’s selection is as well known as those two, so I thought I would share it with you. (By the way, Sweety often sings along to songs we hear in the car, and sometimes I am surprised she knows all the lyrics to some of my more obscure choices!)
It also seems to fit as a springtime song, if one can forget the cold and dreary day it has been in Winnipeg, Canada (though in the late afternoon, the sun has finally broken through).
“Wild apple trees blooming all around
I must be in a good place now
Sunshine coming through
Rainbow coloured sky
Paints pretty pictures in my mind
Oh what a good day to go fishing
And catch the sunset in the hills
Dream of my yesterdays and tomorrow
And hope that you’ll be with me still
Saw a butterfly and I named it after you
Your name has such a pleasant sound
Love is all around and all I see is you
I must be in a good place now”
(from “I Must Be in a Good Place Now,” by Matthew Barber and Jill Barber)
Now you know a little about why this is my song of the day for today. Thanks for joining me here, and please enjoy.
