Here is another one of the songs Sweety, my boys and I heard when we watched the “best of” album companion DVD Twelve Deadly Cyns… And Then Some. (I recently posted on another, “I’m Gonna Be Strong,” and the memories associated with that song and the album.)
Our family enjoyed the DVD many times together on weekends and most of us had favourites: our youngest liked “Money Changes Everything” (live performance in Houston) as the guitarist in Lauper’s band had an amusingly massive head of hair; for Sweety, it was the nostalgic and slightly melancholy “Who Let in the Rain”; for my oldest, it was “Change of Heart” with its stylish costumes and sculpture, and Lauper’s signature “whoop!” and for me, it’s a toss-up between that one and today’s song, “I Drove All Night,” with its driving beat and chaotic drum fills.
To me, the song speaks to that yearning and longing to be with that someone you cannot live without, not even for a minute. Plus it’s a perfect late-night (or any time) highway driving/road trip song. And I suppose it’s a good segue from the slower, more ponderous tunes I’ve featured for a few days. Plus, many of my followers on the blog and on Facebook seem to like a popular song here and there.
Thinking about this DVD and checking in on family favourites (some I remembered, some not quite) I’ve chatted up the clan to do a pizza-and-movie night just like we used to do… it’s been quite a few years since we did one of those. (A Knight’s Tale was another one we enjoyed.)
Now you know a little about why this is my song of the day for today. Thanks for joining me here, and please enjoy.
